1 g/cm³ equals exactly
1 kg/L
The gram per cubic centimeter (g/cm³) and the kilogram per liter (kg/L) are numerically identical. This happens because a cubic centimeter is exactly equal to a milliliter, and a liter contains 1,000 milliliters (= 1,000 cm³): by dividing both the numerator (grams → kilograms, ÷1,000) and the denominator (cm³ → L, ÷1,000) by the same factor, the ratio remains unchanged.
To convert a measurement from g/cm³ to kg/L, the numerical value does not change:
Likewise, to convert from kg/L to g/cm³:
This equivalence is very useful to remember, because g/cm³ is the preferred unit in chemistry and physics for solids, while kg/L is more common for liquids (especially fuels and industrial products). Knowing they return the exact same number allows comparing densities of different materials without needing any conversion.
