How Many Therms in a BTU?

1 BTU equals exactly

0,00001 Therms

How to Convert BTU to Therms

This is the inverse operation compared to the Therm → BTU conversion. Since a Therm corresponds to 100,000 BTU, the Therm value of a single BTU is simply the inverse of this factor: a very small number, since the BTU is a tiny fraction of the energy represented by a Therm.

The Conversion Formula

To convert a measurement from BTU to Therms, simply divide the value by 100,000:

Therm = BTU ÷ 100,000

To convert from Therms to BTU, perform the inverse operation, multiplying by 100,000:

BTU = Therm × 100,000

Practical Examples

  • 100,000 BTU = 1 Therm
  • 50,000 BTU = 0.5 Therm
  • 12,000 BTU (medium air conditioner) = 0.12 Therm
  • 1,000,000 BTU = 10 Therms

When This Conversion Is Needed

This inverse conversion is useful for starting from a technical specification in BTU (for example the power of an air conditioner or boiler) and expressing it in Therms to compare it with gas consumption reported on bills in countries that use this unit.
